Young Sheldon (2017-2024)

Sheldon Cooper was such an endearing character that a spin-off show was created to describe his youth, and does so very well.

He had often mentioned his family and we got to meet them in the parent show, but seeing him be raised and how beautifully they manage a variety of issues while infusing the proceedings with comedy is a delight to watch!

Ian Armitage is a very talented actor and is supported well by the other cast, all of whom add colour and purpose to his life.

If you’re a fan of Sheldon Cooper, you will love this well written and brilliantly acted show!

It’s a sin (2021)

Based on the AIDS epidemic in the 80’s, the 5 episode British TV series provides many angles of various stories, and treats each one with dignity and respect.

There are many tough moments which are dealt in a matter of fact way, while others are given a lighter twist. It speaks of community, support, parenting, fear and of course, sex.

A well constructed and acted series, it gives you many dimensions in its limited running time, leaving you with more perspective than when you started.

Sanditon (2019)

Andrew Davies is no stranger to period drama (Pride and Prejudice, Vanity Fair) and does full justice to Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, Sanditon.

The story is very different from Austen’s usual style and makes for good television. There is plenty of drama, intrigue, deception with a sprinkling of Regency era romance. The novel had many different attempts to complete it, so creative liberties have been taken!

Brilliant performances by the leads Rose William and Theo James, but the one that stands out the most is the matriarch Anne Reid. Each character is well etched and acted, providing the authenticity to the proceedings.

For fans of her work, the story will come as a surprise! Enjoy the intricately woven historical plot!

Palmer (2021)

Justin Timberlake presents an unexpected protagonist who has an unlikely friendship with young Ryder Alan.

What starts as an odd arrangement quickly becomes a bond between two people trying to survive in the world. One struggles while the other thrives.

An emotional and heartwarming journey in a small town, with a big heart.

3.5/5

Soul (2020)

One of the most profound animated films I have seen, it deals with concepts which will be too complex for children to understand, but it gives a simple message, loud and clear, for everyone to be inspired by.

Excellent voices, concepts and two very unique central characters and opposing points of view make this a very moving and heart warming watch.

Highly recommended!

4/5

Bridgerton (2020)

An interesting combination of a period drama with the notoriety of modern day television, it weaves interesting scandals, highs and lows with well written characters.

The story highlights certain stereotypes and does away with others. The plot moves fast with conventional drama playing out with a contemporary twist.

Netflix has invested a lot in the show which has been very well received with lots of plots open for season 2. My favourite, the narration by Julie Andrews!
