Defending Jacob (2020)

An interesting crime drama that goes back and forth, painting a picture of a murder, with a 14 year old as a prime suspect.

Some fine performances by Chris Evans, Michelle Dockery and Jaeden Martell reveal a world of children parents may be shocked to know is ‘normal’ or ‘no big deal’.

Multiple sub-plots emerge without being over dramatic, which make an even more tense watch.

Good content!

Buddha (2013)

The story of Buddha’s destined journey from a prince to an ascetic was first televised in 2013 on Zee TV and Doordarshan. It is now available to view on Netflix.

The soap opera style drama aside, it beautifully explored the relationship between Siddhartha and his parents, teachers and wife. The story ties itself well with the earlier drama when it speaks of redemption, righteousness and the quest to know oneself.

Unlike our other epics, this is not a story oft told. Though liberties are taken with its history, it makes for an enlightening watch with many well written and dramatised lessons, questions and truths.

The Morning Show / Morning Wars (2019)

The Morning Show, or Morning Wars as it is known in Australia and Indonesia, is so much more than one would expect!

We get a career best performance from Jennifer Aniston, a sturdy and dependable Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell, and an ensemble cast which deserve every accolade.

The story is complicated. There is much more at stake than meets the eye. Power, relationships, money, the MeToo movement, bushfires, a terrible mass shooting incident make up the backdrops to many stellar moments.

Introspection, grief, anger, anguish, confidence, insecurity, pain, pent up suffering are all rolled into a hard hitting portrayal by the cast, who have written, produced and delivered an appropriate message which asks new questions and answers old ones.

A captivating watch!

Into the Night (2020)

An apocalyptic sci-fi thriller drama, it has a unique premise which quickly takes the tension to the characters, their personalities and motives. The ensemble cast does full justice to all their roles.

An intense watch with lots of back stories, sub plots and obstacles which make the already frustrating and crucial situation unbearable, but we always want to know how they will get out of it!

3 years in Straya

The last year has been filled with inspiration and momentum. Writing, publishing, book launches across the globe, but where was all of it supposed to start from? Melbourne!

Mumbai was the beginning of the writing journey but it was here that the stars would align and the stories would flow. For that and countless other things, thank you Australia 🙏

Hollywood miniseries (2020)

A seven episode miniseries created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan covers the dreams, rejections, aspirations, failures, truths, lies and the cost of fame in Hollywood.

The sub-plots culminate into a climax that shows everyone’s journeys, emotionally, mentally and physically. While the picture that’s painted is very ideal, it speaks of how life could have been in the 50s.

Rock Hudson’s not so secret life, the politics present in movie studios, business fronts and wild parties are all connected in a web of the dual lives that everyone seems to lead.

David Corenswet, Darren Criss, Laura Harrier, Joe Mantello, Dylan McDermott, Jake Picking, Jeremy Pope, Holland Taylor, Samara Weaving and Patti LuPone show us shades and nuances that reveal a new layer in every episode.

Performances are exceptional across the ensemble cast, but the one that sticks in your memory is by Jim Parsons. He will send shivers up your spine with his character.

A riveting watch with production values that recreate the period perfectly, it gives you everything you could want in a tv series!

Upload (2020)

A satire about an alternate life after death, it takes a futuristic look at what option maybe available.

The fiction is laced with comedy and the inevitable loneliness at being in touch with those that continue to live, but never really being part of their lives.

An interesting perspective that makes you wonder what choice would you make?
