Murder Mystery (2019)
A fun comedy mystery film, where an unsuspecting couple get caught up in a murder scene. Some slapstick scenes and many laughs later, they unwittingly solve the crime whilst showing us scenic Europe.
A cute chemistry between Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler make it a light watch.

Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015)
Drac and the gang are back! This time round the hotel is open to humans and he has a grandchild to dote on. The animation directed by Genndy Tartakovsky takes the story further, but not the experience.
Part two of any film is tricky, and very few achieve a leap in the plot. The characters that we liked in the first film are present, though some of them are relegated to the background.
We have some additions to the voices, one of them being the beloved Megan Mullally (Karen from Will & Grace). Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg and Selena Gomez reprise their roles with the others. The tension in the plot is mild and culminates late, which is perhaps the weakness of the film.
Overall, a good animation with an average plot. Could have more punch. Didn’t resonate like the first.

Blended (2014)
A mature ‘from-com’ (family romantic comedy), this film provided far more laughs than expected.
Though the characters seemed like caricatures, the comedy wasn’t compromised. We have 5 kids, 2 single parents and what was obviously a South African government sponsored promotion camouflaged as a holiday.
Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore look and act their parts well, but it works because of the ensemble, the exotic setting, the not so predictable scenes and of course, the very expected ones.
Though the cinema was sparsely occupied, everybody seemed in the mood to be ‘blended’. A comedy film works well if you are not the only person laughing (which I sometimes was), but most of the time we all seemed to enjoy the humour.
Fun in Sun City and beyond!
