Trying (2020) TV Series

Adorable, witty, funny, deep, emotional and unpredictable is the best way to describe the journey of Nikki and Jason who are trying to have a baby.

The endearing way they support and care for each other, navigating the maze of fertility, adoption and everything in between is a great example of how relationships should be.

Nuanced performances by Esther Smith and Rafe Spall make it a delight to watch, complemented by a super supporting cast and soothing theme song.

Ted Lasso (2020 – 2023)

A heartwarming American sports comedy television series, it brings a smile to your face with its well written characters and scenes.

Jason Sudeikis is the embodiment of a cool coach, who turns the approach to training on its head. A whole team of different personalities and cultures, he chooses traditional means to reach out to them; team spirit and patience.

A stellar ensemble cast who provide many funny and emotional moments, the first season makes you glad a second season is on the cards. Mixing American and British humour, you get the best of both!

A much needed and appreciated show!

Servant – TV series (2019)

I chose to watch this because of M Night Shyamalan’s name. The promo was promising, creepy and interesting.

The viewing experience didn’t translate into the expectation. Peppered with some well acted and crafted scenes, the story builds too slowly for a ten episode series.

The basic premise is freaky, but is soon dismantled by vague plots and unexplained twists. I am all for suspense, but the audience needs a thread to hold on to.

No conclusion in the end made it a betrayal for the viewer, which was mildly compensated by the mood, tone and background score.

See (2019)

In a world where humans have lost the ability to see, sight soon becomes a superstitious evil that is feared and must be eradicated.

Though the series is set in the future it looks to the past for ways to survive. Intuitive action and characters whose other senses are heightened make for an interesting watch.

There are some stellar performances by Sylvia Hoeks, Alfre Woodard and Hera Hilmarsdottir. Jason Mamoa is in top form and very convincing in the principal role.

If you are ready to consume apocalyptic content, then this should be on top of your list!
