The Aftermath (2019)

The film explores an era we have often seen through the lens of history, but its depiction of post-war Germany is a revelation.

Keira Knightley ventures into dangerous territory when she has an affair with Alexander Skarsgard while her husband, Jason Clarke is running the British Forces there.

A parallel of what is left after war, grief, losing ones child, home or spouse and how it impacts their entire world is shown, their relationship becoming the collateral damage.

An intense watch.

Christopher Robin (2018)

A beautiful film about the characters that comfort us and teach us life philosophy through their friendship and views.

The lessons are learned through effective story telling and the various personalities of Pooh, Piglet, Tigger and Eeyore.

Ewan McGregor displays the perfect balance of vulnerability and faith.

Annabelle comes home (2019)

Annabelle provides all the chills and thrills very effectively for an inanimate doll. This time round she possesses all the creepy objects around her, freaking out the overly inquisitive kids.

With ample jolts and shocks, the film delivers on its basic premise, not wandering too far from formula.

2.5/5

Green Book (2018)

This film sensitively sheds light on the history of the Green Book, what African Americans went through in their times and how matters of race were dealt with.

The story is a delicate balance between the stiff and poised maestro pianist played brilliantly by Mahershala Ali and the uber free and casual Viggo Mortensen.

They build an organic rapport with each other and you can see the issues they both go through via the others’ perspective.

A nuanced watch.

Joker (2019)

Joker: Expectations were riding high on this character, with references to the performances of Heath Ledger and the legendary Jack Nicholson.

Joaquin Phoenix makes the character his own from the very beginning, holding a mirror to society’s perception and treatment of mental illness, physical symptoms of injury or just being vulnerable.

As the story progresses, we see what motivated him to become the Joker, what were his feelings and emotions that led him to rely on anarchy as a coping mechanism.

Not only is it a commentary on the breakdown of society, but a true reflection of the current scenario in many countries that pride themselves on their supremacy.

A disturbing yet insightful watch.

Not Normal (2019)

Can I touch it (2019)

Not Normal: Wanda Sykes hits it out of the park once again, with themes that are not only hilarious but insightful as well. A laugh riot!

Can I touch it: Whitney Cummings gives us a peek into the future of intimacy, the present treatment of women and fills it with enough punches and laughter along the way.

Ad Astra (2019)

Brad Pitt shows us a very long journey outward to complete a difficult journey inward. Set in the future, he’s an astronaut chosen for a mission to deep space. He subconsciously carries his issues from Earth all the way there and has to face them. An introspective film which puts our current political, climate, personal, economic issues in perspective.
